We have enjoyed the temples shrines path around the town. The staff was pleasant, kind and helpful. We enjoyed the summer. It was very beautiful and so good! Very beautiful and authentic Japanese style thatched-roofed house, harking back to a lost era. Meals are extensive, tasty, and filling. Staff very helpful, sincerely kind, great English. Not disappointed.

This is the best place I have been to in Japan. The welcome is very warm with a cup of green tea. Not all the staff speaks english, but they always get someone who can translate for you and they are very very nice. The place is a little bit outside the town, but they provide a shuttle service and on the other side it is close to the Hida folk village, one of the major sights around Takayama. If you don't like public bathing, try to get a room with separate shower.

A very friendly, very well-located Ryokan with friendly staff and a lovely Japanese bath. We’d definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Kuwataniya very much!
This staff is extremely helpful land even assisted in booking a ferry for a later port of our journey! The food is excellent and in our opinion, anybody staying at this minshuku will do well ordering breakfast and dinner as well - the value is insuppressible. The location of this minshuku could not be better! It is located very near to the train station and also very conveniently for sightseeing. We used the minshuku bicycles to quickly reach all main sights of the city including point well outside of the center (Hide Folk Village). Not to be forgotten, the minshuku also offers a hot bath. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised and had a truly Japanese experience!
One suggestion: perhaps it would be possible to use the hot bath as private, family baths for limited hour in the future.
